HPA stands for high pressure air and NO, an HPA system isn’t just a compressed air tank. Please read on for more information…
Capacity! Portable air tanks store air at the output pressure of a shop air compressor. This is typically around 125-200psi. To fill (4) 35” tires to 44psi would require a very large air tank which reduces the space in your rig for off-road gear, tools and friends.
For a given volume, SCUBA tanks offer much more energy than a portable air tank since they store air at a much higher pressure; usually around 3,000psi. This additional energy means more tire fills & longer tool runtime.
An HPA system offers 50% more pressure than most SCUBA systems providing maximum capacity for all your off-road needs. This HPA capacity can only be achieved by using composite cylinders made from high tensile strength carbon fibers.
This answer will vary based on a number of factors, however; AuxAir66 capacity is similar to a 10lb CO2 system. You can expect to get 10 tire fills in a 35" (315/70R17) tire from 15psi (the lowest pressure most will run without bead-locks) to 44psi (rated cold tire pressure for the Ford Raptors operating on pavement).
Note: Air heats up when compressed. For maximum capacity, cylinders must be filled very slowly or "topped-off" after a fill when the air cools to ambient temperature.
NO! Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is classified as neither flammable nor toxic, however; it may cause intoxication at elevated concentrations. Concentrations of CO2 can be hazardous above 5,000ppm. Exposure to levels above 30,000ppm (3.0%) CO2 can cause respiratory issues, headache, hearing issues, increased blood pressure and pulse rate. If you have a CO2 system but haven’t read the warning labels, we encourage you to do so. If your CO2 system doesn’t have a warning label, we suggest you re-think the use of that system.
Another hazard that can occur in CO2 cylinders are tank explosions due to a phenomenon called Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion (BLEVE). A BLEVE can occur if a CO2 tank were punctured allowing large amounts of CO2 to leave the cylinder rapidly. Projectile pieces form an exploding tank can cause injury or death.
HPA Systems are designed to hold air pressure. This is the same air we breathe every day. It is non-toxic to humans and safe for the environment. HPA Systems are made with cylinders utilizing some of the safest designs available anywhere. While other systems just use aluminum cylinders, we wrap our aluminum cylinders in carbon fibers for maximum strength and then fiberglass fibers for superior toughness. The best part is, since HPA is stored and released as a gas, no chance of BLEVE explosions.

Absolutely! Air is approximately 78% nitrogen. Commercially bottled nitrogen is generally 90-95% nitrogen. There are no issues using commercially bottled nitrogen in our AuxAir66 system.
One of the things we love about HPA Systems is that they can be filled at a number of locations for a low or sometimes no fee! Many commercial gas companies won’t fill your brand new CO2 tank and require you to trade it in for their dirty, ugly unit.
We suggest finding a local fill station prior to purchasing an HPA unit. Many paintball shops, sporting good stores, SCUBA shops & Fire Stations can fill HPA systems. Another option would be to purchase your own compressor. Please see our products page for compatible compressor options.
No, so long as you maintain proper air pressure in your tires. However using CO2 in some manufactures tires will void the warranty. We recommend contacting the tire manufacture for more information.
